Windows 95/98/Me/2000 Connect Procedure |
Before you begin, make sure you
have your Windows program CD-ROM or diskettes available and ready for installation.

| Setup
Windows Networking Verify
that the proper network components are installed.
- Click the Start button, point to Settings and choose Control Panel.
- Click the Network icon.
- Select the Configuration tab.
- The following network components should be installed:
- Client for Microsoft Networks or Microsoft Family Logon
- Dialup Adapter
- TCP/IP
- If one or more network components are not installed, follow the procedures outlined
below.
Add a Dial-up Adapter
(only if not already installed on your system)
- Click the Start button, point to Settings and choose Control Panel.
- Click the Network icon.
- Select the Configuration tab.
- Click the Add button.
- Select Adapter.
- Click the Add button.
- From the Manufacturers list choose Microsoft.
- From the Network Adapters list choose Dial-up Adapter.
- Click the OK button.
Add TCP/IP (only if not already installed on your system)
- Click the Add button.
- Select Protocol.
- Click the Add button.
- From the Manufacturers list select Microsoft.
- From the Network Protocol list select TCP/IP.
- Click the OK button.
Add Client for Microsoft Networks or Microsoft Family Logon
(only if not already installed on your system)
- Click the Add button.
- Select Client.
- Click the Add button.
- From the Manufacturers list select Microsoft.
- From the Network Clients list select Client for Microsoft Networks or Microsoft
Family Logon.
- Click the OK button.
You should now only have three things listed: Client for Microsoft Networks or Microsoft
Family Logon, TCP/IP and Dial-up Adapter. If you see anything
else listed, and you don't know what it is, click on it to highlight it and then
click the Remove button. If your are on a network, ask your network
administrator what components are necessary.
Configure TCP/IP
- Choose the Configuration tab.
- Under "The following network components are installed:" selection window,
choose TCP/IP.
- Click the Properties button.
- Choose the IP Address tab.
- Select the Obtain an IP address automatically button.
- Choose the DNS Configuration tab.
- Select Disable DNS.
- Choose the WINS Configuration tab.
- Select Disable WINS Resolution.
- Choose the Gateway tab.
- Clear the Installed Gateways text box.
- Click the OK button.
Once everything is correct click OK. When asked to restart your computer click
the Yes button and wait for your computer to restart.

Install
Dial-Up Networking
- Double-click My Computer on your desktop.
- Double-click the Control Panel icon.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Click the Windows Setup tab.
- Click the Communications component.
- Click the Details... button.
- Put a check in the box next to Dial-Up Networking. (If already checked you can
cancel and skip this section)
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button again.
- Windows will prompt you for your installation diskettes or CD.
- Wait for Dial-Up Networking to install.
- When you are told to restart, click the OK button.
- Click the Start button and choose Shut Down.
- Select Restart the computer?
- Click the Yes button.
- Wait for Windows to restart.
This may take a few minutes while windows configures files.

Setup Dial-Up Networking
- For Windows 95, 98 and 2000 users, double click on the My Computer icon.
Double click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.
For Windows Me users, click on Start, Settings, Dial-up
Networking.
- Now double click on the Make New Connection icon.
- Under "Type a name for the computer you are dialing" field, type Sunrise.
- Click the Configure button.
- Check that the appropriate speed for your modem is highlighted (for 14.4 modems use 19200,
for 28.8 and 33.6 modems use 38400 and for 56K modems use 57600.)
- Make sure that the Only connect at this speed option is not checked.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the Next button.
- In the Area code and Telephone number text boxes, type your local
access number. Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the
number you choose is a local toll-free call.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Finish button.
- Click on the icon in Dialup Networking with the right mouse button.
- Choose Properties. You may also left click once on the icon and go to the File
menu and select Properties.
- Click on Server Types tab (on some versions of Windows this will be a
button located to the right of the Configure button)
- For Type of Dial-Up Server, select the first item on the list.
- Make sure that the TCP/IP, and Enable software compression boxes
are the only ones selected with check marks.
- Click the TCP/IP Settings button.
- Select the Server assigned IP address button.
- Select the Server assigned name server addresses button.
- Make sure that there is a check beside both Use IP header compression and Use
default gateway on remote network.
- Click the OK button about 3 times to get back to the Dial-up Networking
window.
- Drag the new Sunrise connection icon to your desktop.
- When you see a message saying You cannot move or copy this item to this location. Do
you want to create a shortcut to the item instead?, click the Yes button.
Your computer is now configured to connect to the Internet.
Options
Dial automatically when opening Internet Explorer
- Click the Start button, point to Settings and choose Control Panel.
- Click the Internet or Internet Options icon.
- Select the Connections tab.
- Select to dial up using the Sunrise connection name you created earlier.
- Click the OK button.
Change the
opening homepage
- Click the Start button, point to Settings and choose Control Panel.
- Click the Internet or Internet Options icon.
- Select the General tab.
- Type the new address http://www.lucernevalley.net
or any other web address in the Home Page section.
- Click the OK button.
